The Indooroopilly Shopping Centre redevelopment is well underway and works are progressing to deliver a spectacular new shopping experience tailor made for you.

Shoppers can look forward to a revitalised Myer, new David Jones and 120 new specialty stores including an exciting array of Australian and international fashion brands, gourmet food precinct, and a new outdoor dining precinct. The coming months will see the opening of over 100 new fashion stores on Levels 2 and 3, along with a number of restaurants, cafes, homewares, beauty and giftware stores.

A brand new Coles supermarket, Liquorland and Breadtop have joined Woolworths supermarket in Gourmet Fresh on Level 1. Gourmet Fresh offers a premium selection of fresh produce from an array of stores including fruit and vegetable, butchery, fresh seafood, florist, sushi, homewares, specialty coffee, Asian grocer and more. $16 million gourmet food precinct signals fresh milestone for Indooroopilly Shopping Centre Jul 30

Indooroopilly Shopping Centre has opened its vibrant new Gourmet Fresh food precinct, marking a significant milestone in the Centre’s $450 million redevelopment.

Anchored by a new Woolworths store, the $16 million precinct welcomes 10 new stores including an Asian grocer, artisan butcher, fresh and cooked seafood market, green grocer, sushi, cafés, homewares and an acclaimed local florist. An eat-in gourmet delicatessen, French bakery, and renowned yum cha restaurant will open soon.

Centre Manager, Leah Mienert, said the Gourmet Fresh precinct would offer customers a unique fresh food and dining experience, setting new benchmarks for shopping centre food precincts.

"The quality and range of retailers within Gourmet Fresh, coupled with the distinctive aesthetic design and layout of the precinct, is a big step away from the traditional shopping centre fresh food offering," Ms Mienert said.

"This is something our customers have been wanting for some time and we are excited to open a precinct that allows everyone to shop for fresh produce and enjoy a host of gourmet eat-in options in a market style environment.

"Many of the stores source products locally and can offer expert advice to customers on how to prepare, store and serve their produce."

Celebrity chef Poh Ling Yeow was on hand to launch the precinct today and will be conducting three gourmet cooking demonstrations a day until Saturday, using ingredients from the Gourmet Fresh retailers.

Located on Level 1, the Gourmet Fresh precinct links to the rest of the Centre via new lifts and travelators. A new car park entry off Moggill Road will open soon providing access to the most direct parking.

"The opening of this precinct marks a significant milestone for the Centre and gives customers a preview of the wider multi-million dollar redevelopment due for completion in mid-2014," Ms Mienert said.

Last November the Centre welcomed a brand new Target store and children's fashion precinct. Over the next 12 months customers can look forward to around 30,000 square metres of additional retail space, including a new David Jones department store, expanded Myer, a Coles Supermarket, new look Kmart as well as 340 specialty stores.

Also planned are around 900 additional car parking spaces, taking the total to 4,700.

The redevelopment will create around 1,500 jobs during construction and is expected to provide around 1,200 permanent, part-time and casual jobs once work is completed.


Q: What is the estimated total $ value of the redevelopment?

The total estimated cost of the redevelopment is approximately $450 million.

Q: In how many stages will construction be undertaken and over what period?

There are no specific stages. It will be a continuous 30-month program of works.

Q: When is the redevelopment expected to be completed?

The project is expected to commence in early 2012 and will take approximately two and a half years to be completed.

Q: What is the total area of new retail space to be added to the Centre?

Approximately 30,000 square metres of retail space will be added.

Q: What will be the enlarged Centre's total retail area?

The Centre will have a total retail space of 115,000 square metres.

Q: How many new car spaces will be added? What will be the total car parking capacity once the redevelopment is completed?

There will be 900 more parking spaces added in various parts of the Centre, bringing the total to 4,700. In addition there will be improvements in general circulation and access within the car parks.

Q: Who is the building contractor for the redevelopment?

Brookfield Multiplex has been appointed as building contractor.

Q: How many new retailing jobs will the redevelopment bring?

On completion of the redevelopment it is estimated that around 1,200 full-time, part-time and casual positions will be created within the Centre.

Q: How many construction jobs will the Centre redevelopment generate?

Approximately 1,500 jobs are expected to be created during the redevelopment.

Q: What types of retailers will be in the Centre?

David Jones will be coming to the Centre with the store covering around 14,000 square metres. David Jones will be located on the Stamford Road side of the Centre and will occupy two levels, with car parking floors positioned above and below.

A Coles supermarket with 4,000 square metres of retail space will open.

The existing Myer store will be reconfigured over two larger levels, and will have 15,200 square metres of retail space.

Existing retailers Target, Kmart and Woolworths will also have major refurbishments during the program.

Q: How many additional specialty shops will be added to the Centre?

Approximately 120 additional specialty stores.

Q: How many retailers will there be in total following the redevelopment?

Approximately 340 retailers.

Q: What are the specifics for the plaza precinct?

A new plaza precinct will be developed on the corner of Station and Stamford Roads, creating an active frontage to local area retail and commercial areas. It will have a range of coffee shops, restaurants, shade and open space to present a welcoming, community-focused entry for the Centre.

Q: Are there any specific retailer categories the Centre is specifically keen to attract?

Indooroopilly has always been known for its fashion focus and with the addition of David Jones and many speciality retailers we will be able to affirm our dominance in fashion.

Q: Apart from the significant upgrade to the eastern façade and the addition of a new internal mall, are there other enhancements planned to upgrade the amenity/appeal of the existing internal spaces?

Works will include greatly improving amenity and access for customers within the Centre, with 10 additional customer lifts, travelators and escalators. All existing retail precincts will be refurbished to complement the new work.

Q: Will there be changes to the food offer within the Centre?

We will introduce a new fresh food precinct outside the reconfigured Woolworths Supermarket and our existing food court will have a face lift, as will other existing precincts within the Centre. When we add in cafes and restaurants in our new plaza area, then Indooroopilly will have a terrific array of fresh and convenience food.

Q: Is this redevelopment significant in terms of size, cost or configuration when compared with other Centre developments that have occurred in recent years?

This is a significant investment and would be one of the largest undertaken in the past 10 years.

Q: What will be the working hours for the construction team?

Generally speaking 6am to 6pm six days a week. However, there may be variations to this due to the type of work or location of work being undertaken. Our aim will be to keep everyone informed about the construction program.

Q: Will the redevelopment cause any disruption to customers of the Centre?

We will do everything in our power to minimise disruption to our customers. There will be plenty of information and notices about the redevelopment within the Centre.

Q: Will the redevelopment cause any disruption to local area residents?

Our aim will be to keep everyone informed about the work program and likely impacts.
